On Monday, May 13th, the day after Mother’s Day, at 12 p.m. ET, child health and development experts, educators, labor leaders, children’s advocates, and impacted parents came together to call on President Biden to prioritize the well-being of children in mixed-status immigrant families. They urged the administration to utilize existing pathways for administrative relief to mitigate deportations and maintain family unity. With over five million children, the vast majority of whom were United States citizens themselves, living in mixed-status families with at least one undocumented parent, the need for action was urgent.

This press briefing highlighted the submission of a letter to the Biden administration on Monday, endorsed by more than two dozen leading children’s advocacy organizations. In the letter, members of the Children Thrive Action Network (CTAN), a national coalition dedicated to defending and supporting children in immigrant families, called on the administration to expand legal pathways for spouses of U.S. citizens.
