President Biden’s recent announcement to provide work permits to undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens has garnered strong support from organizations like the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) and American Families United (AFU). This decision, aimed at assisting American families and addressing immigration reform, comes as the U.S. grapples with 10.6 million citizens in mixed-status households. The Here to Work campaign, with backing from various stakeholders, including employers, labor unions, and elected officials, has been instrumental in advocating for work permits. The bipartisan nature of this issue was evident through endorsements from mayors, governors, and members of Congress. The culmination of these efforts was seen at the Here to Work Summit in November 2023, where advocates marched to the White House to push for action.
