Maryland State Delegate Ashanti Martinez, chair of the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus, and Maria Rodriguez, a CASA member and Baltimore construction worker, traveled to Washington, D.C. on April 16-17 for a briefing on Capitol Hill, advocating for the extension of work permits to immigrants deeply integrated into American families and communities. Martinez emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “My first day as chair of the Latino caucus was the day after the tragedy at the Francis Scott Key Bridge… President Biden, you have the power to act.” Rodriguez, a single mother and essential worker, shared her concerns, “I am a single mother to two beautiful children who depend on me as the head of the household… I fear something might happen to me and my children will be alone here in this country without me.
