Amanda Valencia, a member of American Families United (Lansing), called for the extension of work permits to immigrants deeply integrated into American families and communities in a trip to Washington, D.C. on April 16-17.. Representing 17,000 U.S. citizens in Michigan with undocumented spouses, Valencia shared her personal experience, revealing the challenges she and her husband faced over nearly nine years of marriage. She stated, “We have been dealing with my husband’s immigration issues for years… We suffered a lot over the years… Even in that dire circumstance, we were unable to get any type of relief.” Despite enduring hardships, including her husband’s emergency brain surgery, Valencia emphasizes the urgent need for President Biden to take action.
